Support Through Employee Volunteering
At Mutual of Omaha, we believe that serving our community goes beyond financial contributions. Our associates bring valuable expertise, leadership and energy that strengthen nonprofit organizations and deepen our collective impact.
We support this commitment through two primary engagement pathways: Board Placement and Volunteer Engagement. Each opportunity allows our employees to connect with the community in meaningful ways, while helping nonprofits advance their missions. Because these programs have capacity limits, participation is by invitation only.
Board placement: sharing leadership & expertise
Why We Do This
Strong boards are the foundation of strong nonprofits. By placing Mutual of Omaha associates on boards, we help organizations benefit from skilled leadership, strategic insight and professional expertise. Our employees, in turn, gain a deeper understanding of community needs and bring that knowledge back into their work.
How It Works
We consider requests from nonprofit organizations in the Omaha metro (Douglas & Sarpy counties in Nebraska, and Pottawattamie County in Iowa).
The placement process typically takes 3–6 months.
To be considered, organizations should provide:
A board role description
Officer & director insurance documentation
Any agreements or policies required of board members
Evidence of organizational capacity (e.g., budget size, executive leadership, alignment with our focus areas)
Invitations for board placement are extended selectively, based on clear alignment and our internal capacity. We are careful not to add new placements if doing so would reduce support or engagement with existing partner organizations.
Volunteer engagement: serving with time & talent
Why We Do This
We know that hands-on service strengthens both our community and our culture as a company. When employees volunteer, they build connections, gain perspective and help create a stronger Omaha.
How It Works
Group opportunities: We organize team-based projects, usually involving 10 or more associates during the workweek.
Individual opportunities: Employees are encouraged to serve where they are passionate. Our volunteer time practice has no limit — associates may volunteer during the workday with prior manager approval.
Partnerships: We are always interested in hearing about volunteer needs. If your organization has opportunities that could be a fit, please contact us at volunteer@mutualofomaha.com.
We strive to respond to opportunities where there may be alignment, however we may not reply to requests that fall outside our mission or capacity.
