The Mutual of Omaha Foundation announced that it invested nearly $3.5 million with 60 organizations during 2016.
“Our community can only be as strong as our most vulnerable population,” said Gail Graeve, executive director of the Mutual of Omaha Foundation, “With a significant number of people living in poverty, our investments are directed to programs addressing basic needs, adult self-sufficiency and at-risk youth. We are proud to support a wide range of local organizations doing this important work which positively affects the vitality of the entire Omaha metro-area.”
The Foundation considers funding requests from nonprofit organizations in the Omaha metropolitan area addressing issues of poverty. Grant applications are currently being accepted through Feb. 15.
In addition, the Foundation has announced the election of Alex Hayes to its board of directors. Hayes is vice president, Physical Security/Business Continuity, at Mutual of Omaha, where he oversees the company’s corporate safety program and leads business continuity planning and corporate physical security activities.
Prior to joining Mutual of Omaha in 2013, he served as Chief of Police for the City of Omaha, from which he retired with more than 25 years of service. Hayes has served on a number of nonprofit organization boards throughout the Omaha community.
